Wednesday, May 13, 2015 – Sunday, August 23, 2015

The Auburn Avenue Research Library, in collaboration with the Hammonds House Museum, will host Collier Heights: A Photographic Exhibit. Taken by photographer Lydia A. Harris, this stunning exhibit and art book documents the Collier Heights community located in Northwest Atlanta, Georgia. As the photographs explore mid-century modern architecture, the intimacy of the artist’s experience unfolds, as intricate interiors are revealed. Taken between 2010 and 2014, the photographs pay tribute to a community that served as the cultural and economic cornerstone of Atlanta’s black middleclass and was instrumental to the regional Civil Rights Movement. Lydia A. Harris will facilitate an Artist’s Talk on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at 3:00 p.m.

This exhibit will be on display in the AARL Satellite Gallery @ Hammonds House Museum located at 503 Peeples St SW, Atlanta, GA 30310.

Juror’s Comments:

The photograph represents mid-century, middle class and [post]-modern in its true form: decay, decline, demise. It has intellectual strength, socially emotion-provoking scene, undertones and camera focal placement to make it a new art form in camera and video photography. – Kaveh Mojtabai, Founder and Publisher of Artscope Magazine
